UPDATED: GlaxoSmithKline Recalling Ventolin Inhalers for Possible Package Leakage Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America

Looking for:

ventolin

People with asthma depend on their inhaler to work in an emergency. If the inhaler does not work, they may need emergency medical attention. Asthma attacks can be deadly without treatment. Inhalers with severe leaks may not deliver any medication at all.

The devices have been recalled from hospitals, pharmacies, retailers and wholesalers in the United States. GSK is committed to supplying high quality product and patient satisfaction, and we sincerely regret any inconvenience this recall may cause." Even with perfect use, asthma inhalers only get about 40% of the medicine into the lungs. In real-world use by people who are having an asthma attack, the actual amount of medication delivered to the lungs drops to 7%. Tens of millions of people in the United States use metered-dose inhalers like the Ventolin asthma inhalers.

GSK says the defective Ventolin asthma inhalers do not pose a danger to patients. GSK is not offering a refund or asking patients to return the inhalers. The recall only applies to pharmacies.

It usually affects adults between 35 and 50 years old. Nighttime symptoms three to four times a month. Asthma attacks might affect activities.

The amount of medication drops even lower when defective asthma inhalers leak. Even tiny leaks can significantly reduce the amount of medicine that gets into the lungs, especially in an emergency. It can mean the difference between life and death during an asthma attack.

"We continue to investigate the issue in order to identify the root cause and implement appropriate corrective and preventative actions." Albuterol sulfate is a life-saving medication that reduces the tightening of airway muscles and the inflammation of the airway lining. In 2007, the CDC reported that 3,447 Americans lost their lives due to asthma.

You need to go to a hospital right away. Unfortunately, some people think that the disappearance of wheezing is a sign of improvement and don’t get emergency care. If you have one of these products at home, check the lot numbers against those in the linked recall notices. For both of these, only some lots are affected, and lots not on the recall lists are fine to continue using.
